BROOKLYN, NY (December 1, 2015) ― Rejuvenate, support community artisans and remedy any holiday blues at a FREE and warm winter event at St. Francis College in Brooklyn on Sunday, Dec. 13th.  AIYETORO – Peace on Earth: A Celebration of Mind, Body & Spirit will open its doors to the public all day, 9am till 9pm, closing with a special concert featuring master Percussion Artist Bashiri Johnson, (Sting, Michael Jackson).

Ted Williams, Head Munchkin in The Wiz movie, will lead us in songs from the film a week after its triumphant revival on NBC. Family-friendly fare includes chair yoga, movement activities, jazz, dance and vocal performances as well as guided meditation, beginning at 9am in the college’s Founders Hall Auditorium. A fine arts, crafts and wellness fair starts at 10am in the adjoining Callahan Center.  St. Francis College is at 180 Remsen St. in downtown Brooklyn, a block from the Borough Hall station, a hub of six subway lines, and across the street from AIYETORO event sponsor Perelandra, one of Brooklyn’s oldest and most venerated health food stores.

Enjoy an enlightening talk by noted psychologist Dr. Jeff Gardere, join in a drumming circle led by Johnson, a stress-relief movement workshop or a community sing, while licensed/certified practitioners of medically recognized, cutting-edge and alternative healing modalities offer their services. Find amazing gifts, enjoy healthy, delicious foods, get an acupressure facial or have your chakra balanced in a beautiful, artful atmosphere.      AIYETORO means, “Peace on Earth” in the language of the Yoruba people of West Africa. This welcoming event is designed for the enrichment of all, through knowledge, healing, entertainment and the fulfillment of communing with others. The goal is: “Peace On Earth…one smile, one person at a time.” It’s fitting that AIYETORO is held at St. Francis College, as the gathering embodies the Franciscan values of Respect, Compassion, Service and Integrity. This annual event benefits the Andrew W. Cooper Young Journalists In Training (YJIT) program at the college, named after the pioneering Civil Rights activist, businessman and publisher who founded The City Sun newspaper.

Bailey’s Café, a Bed-Stuy community organization, and Feel the Music, servicing victims of trauma, are participating non-profits. Vendors and exhibitors include: Brown Bag Angels, Ella Murray Designs, Shaz Gallery, Hats By Kat, Monifa Designs, Pottery Chris, The Noble Touch, Zola Dube (beadwork artisan), Reiki Master Deena Collins and Healthy City Foods.
